Teenagers died, multiple others injured in mass shooting incident in Indianapolis, confirm authorities
In a shocking turn of events, Indianapolis was rocked by a mass shooting incident early Saturday morning, July 5, 2025. The incident, which occurred near Washington and Meridian Street, claimed the lives of two teenage boys and left several others critically injured.
Officers responded to calls of a disturbance at around 1:27 a.m. and heard shots fired. Upon arrival, they found an unidentified 16-year-old boy dead at the scene. Tragically, another victim, a 15-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Five other victims were transported to the hospital, with their conditions currently unknown.
The surviving victims are a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old, two 19-year-olds, and one 21-year-old, according to investigators.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and Police Chief Chris Bailey both condemned the shooting and expressed their sorrow for the families of the victims. Mayor Hogsett stated, "All of this is avoidable and preventable," while Chief Bailey expressed his fury over the violence, saying, "Too many lives are being lost."
As of Saturday afternoon, no suspect has been identified in the mass shooting incident. Police have not released any information on a potential suspect or motive as the investigation remains ongoing. Multiple firearms were found at the scene, and several people were detained for questioning, but no suspects have been publicly named by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) as of now.
