Teenager vanishes at sea during beach football game with friends
A 17-year-old boy has gone missing after entering the water while playing football with friends at a beach. The incident triggered an immediate search operation involving multiple emergency teams. Lifeguards first raised the alarm at 4:55 p.m. on Wednesday. The teenager disappeared shortly after going into the sea. Lifeguards from the Frente Urbana Lifeguard Association spotted the situation and alerted authorities. Rescue crews from Cascais Lifeboat Station, the Port Authority, Lisbon Maritime Police, and an aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force joined the search.
Efforts to locate the boy continued for hours but were called off at around 8:00 p.m. due to fading light. Despite the combined efforts of all teams, the teenager was not found. Authorities have confirmed that search operations will restart at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. No records of similar missing persons cases or major rescue operations at Portuguese beaches over the past year have been reported.
The search for the missing 17-year-old remains ongoing, with multiple agencies set to resume efforts early Thursday morning. The incident has prompted a coordinated response, though no further details about the boy's whereabouts have been confirmed.
