Young Gun Rew Shines in Brotherly Partnership

In a thrilling display of brotherly unity and raw talent, the Rew brothers, James (21) and Thomas (17), made a significant impact in the 2025 One-Day Cup. Playing for Somerset, the duo delivered a match-winning century partnership against Middlesex on August 6.

James, who has been Somerset's leading run-scorer in the County Championship this season, demonstrated his rising profile in professional cricket with an unbeaten 106. His older brother, Thomas, contributed 51 runs in his maiden List A appearance for Somerset. This was their first time batting together in senior professional cricket, and their partnership led Somerset to a six-wicket victory.

The brothers' synergy at the crease was evident, as they added another 95-run partnership shortly after their century stand. This performance reinforced their potential as a formidable batting duo.

James's hundred marked his third List A hundred and was a crucial contribution in a stiff run-chase. He entered the chase for Somerset at No.4 with the score at 81-2, and his consistent performances and leadership potential, as Somerset's captain, suggest a strong future in both county and international cricket.

Thomas, on the other hand, has shown rapid progression from youth cricket. He recently set a record by hitting the fastest ever one-day century for England Under-19s, scoring 131 off 89 balls against India. In the senior game, his innings of 51 against Middlesex was his maiden half-century in List A cricket, and he quickly followed it with a second consecutive fifty.

The future looks bright for Thomas, with expectations that he will continue developing into a key player for Somerset and potentially for England.

Middlesex, in their defence, scored 289-7 in their 50 overs. Notable contributions came from Jack Davies (64 runs) and Joshua de Caires (71 runs). Jake Ball and Jack Leach took three wickets each for Somerset.
