Newcomer Justin Engel, a beacon of hope for German tennis, caught our eyes at the Stuttgart tournament. Facing off against Australian James Duckworth, Engel put up a valiant effort, securing a spot in the quarterfinals with a nail-biting 4:6, 6:4, 7:6 (7:5) victory after two hours and 29 minutes.

The match began with a flubbed first service game from Engel, but he soon regained his composure. Despite a couple of squandered match points at 5:4 in the third set with Duckworth serving, Engel held his nerve and clinched the win in a tense tiebreak. "I'm thrilled with my performance," said the wildcard recipient.

NHL's Star Seider Witnesses the Showdown

In the stands was none other than Moritz Seider, NHL defenseman and Mannheim native spending his summer break at home. Alongside his girlfriend, former short track skater Anna Seider, Seider watched the captivating match unfold. "I'm just a sports aficionado, always eager to immerse myself in different sports," Seider shared.

Engel is among a quartet of teenagers shaking up the German men's tennis scene. Niels McDonald captured headlines as the French Open junior champion last weekend, topping Max Schoenhaus in a German final. Diego Dedura, like Engel, is already seasoned on the ATP Tour.

The Practice Court for Zverev

With his French Open quarterfinal exit, Alexander Zverev has plenty of time to focus on the grass season. As the top seed of the Stuttgart tournament, with a whopping €751,630 prize pool, Zverev can afford a first-round bye and is expected to make his debut on Thursday.

Yannick Hanfmann, a qualifier from Karlsruhe, bid his farewell earlier in the tournament, falling to Hungarian Marton Fucsovics 5:7, 4:6. Jan-Lennard Struff, however, advanced to the quarterfinals on Monday.

While the specifics of the banana mishap remain unclear, it's worth noting that tennis players often incorporate bananas in their pre-match routine due to their rapid energy-boosting properties, high in potassium.
