16-Year-Old Escapes Police Twice - And Gets Caught - Teen evades police twice on modified DDR-stamped moped near Magdeburg

A 16-year-old boy evaded police twice while riding a heavily modified moped near Magdeburg. Officers later found him at his home in Colbitz with the uninsured vehicle, which bore a homemade metal plate stamped with 'DDR'. The teen now faces multiple charges, including illegal street racing and driving without a valid licence.

The incident began when police first spotted the teen riding erratically north of Magdeburg. He cut across field paths, switched off his lights, and reached speeds of up to 85 kph (53 mph) to escape. Officers lost track but identified him shortly after through witness statements and further investigations.

About 20 minutes later, police located him again—only for him to flee a second time. The moped he was riding had no insurance tag, only a crude metal plate with 'DDR' stamped on it. Authorities confirmed he lacked both the proper licence for the modified vehicle and mandatory insurance coverage. The moped in question appears to be a modified version of a classic East German model, likely a Simson S50 or similar. Originally designed as a 50cc, 3.6-horsepower vehicle with a top speed of 60 kph, such bikes were popular among young riders in the 1980s and 1990s. This particular one, however, had clearly been altered for higher performance. Police have since launched formal proceedings against the teen. Charges include insult, coercion in traffic, illegal street racing, and breaching mandatory insurance laws.

The case now moves forward with multiple legal proceedings against the 16-year-old. His modified moped has been seized, and he faces penalties for driving without a licence, insurance violations, and dangerous evasion. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether further modifications to the vehicle will result in additional charges.
