16-Year-Old Drives at 45 km/h on the A27 - Teen driver stopped on A27 motorway in banned light quadricycle

A 16-year-old driver was stopped on the A27 motorway early Sunday morning while operating a light quadricycle. The vehicle was not equipped for a speed test, as light quadricycles, though road-legal, are banned from motorways due to their low maximum speed. German law requires vehicles on such roads to exceed 60 km/h.

The teen explained that he had been following his navigation device's directions. His presence on the A27 created a potential danger for faster-moving traffic. Authorities confirmed the driver now faces regulatory offense proceedings.

Over the past two years, around 1,200 similar cases have been recorded nationwide. Most involved fines or driving bans for unauthorised motorway use of underpowered vehicles. Police checks in states like Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg identified the majority of violations.

The incident highlights the risks of using slow vehicles on high-speed roads. The teen's quadricycle did not meet motorway speed requirements, leading to enforcement action. Police continue to monitor such cases to ensure road safety compliance.
