Teen Fleeing on Modified E-Scooter Causes Accident - Teen crashes modified electric scooter after high-speed police chase in Germany
A 16-year-old fled from police on a modified electric scooter in Sandhausen, Rhein-Neckar district. The chase ended when the teen crashed into a patrol car after reaching speeds of nearly 37 mph (60 km/h). The incident began when officers spotted the teen riding an uninsured electric scooter without a licence plate. The vehicle had been altered to reach speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h), well above legal limits. The rider, who did not hold a driver’s licence, attempted to escape when police tried to stop them. During the pursuit, the teen accelerated before colliding with the patrol car. The crash left them with minor injuries. After the collision, officers found the rider carrying pepper spray and a bottle opener shaped like a knuckle duster. No police reports from late December 2025 mention an officer causing the accident while pursuing a suspect. The investigation remains focused on the teen’s actions and the unregistered electric scooter. The teen now faces charges related to unlicensed driving, uninsured vehicle use, and possession of prohibited items. Authorities continue to examine the modified electric scooter and the circumstances of the crash.
