Preview unveils details of upcoming chapter in series - Teaser reveals details on upcoming sequel chapter
Get ready to dive back into the magical world of Oz as the debut trailer for the much-anticipated sequel, "Wicked: For Good", has finally dropped! The first installment of the musical movie adaptation, "Wicked", graced our screens late last year, starring Cynthia Erivo (38) as the wicked Elphaba and Ariana Grande (31) as Glinda in their lead roles. Now, with the excitement building, a trailer for the second part of this "The Wizard of Oz" prequel has been unveiled, making its premier on platforms like YouTube.
The new trailer hints at the former friends, Elphaba and Glinda, finding themselves on opposing sides of a fierce battle for justice. Ariana Grande delivers a chilling line, turning around to face her ex-best friend, clad in her sinister witch's cloak, saying, "There's no going back. This is between the Wizard and me," the Wicked Witch of the West declares oppressively.
Apart from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, familiar faces from the big screen return for round two: Jonathan Bailey (37) is back as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum (72) takes on his role as the Wizard of Oz once again, and Michelle Yeoh (62) portrays Madame Morrible.
Welcome to the second act in November
Based on the book "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire (70), the musical hit Broadway audiences since 2003. The story was beautifully crafted by book writer Winnie Holzman (70), with music by Stephen Schwartz (77). The stage duo, along with director Jon M. Chu (45), reunited for the film adaptation of the iconic "The Wizard of Oz" prequel. Due to its wealth of content, the story was split into two films.
The first film was a smashing hit: Variety reports that "Wicked" holds the title for the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time, exceeding "Mamma Mia" from 2008[5]. The movie also received recognition during award season, clinching two Oscars for costume and production design[5]. The sequel is set to hit German theaters on November 20, 2025[6].

Insight:
In the original stage musical, Glinda and Elphaba clash multiple times, particularly when Glinda gets involved with the Wizard's administration and eventually marries Fiyero, who later develops feelings for Elphaba[1][3]. With the sequel expected to follow a similar narrative structure, it is possible to assume that confrontations or tense moments between Elphaba and Glinda will unfold on screen[4]. However, the precise dynamics between these characters in the movie are yet to be revealed.
