Football fans of Energie Cottbus can barely contain their excitement as their team edges closer to promotion to the second league. All they need is a win in their final game of the season against FC Ingolstadt this Saturday (13:30 CET) to secure third place and keep their playoff dreams alive.

Claus-Dieter Wollitz, the jovial coach of Cottbus, expects nothing less than a top-notch performance and the right mindset from his team for this crucial match. Despite the promising starting position, he doesn't believe any extra motivation is necessary.

Remembering Rostock

Besides a fiery performance on the pitch, Wollitz hopes for an electric atmosphere from the stands. "I'm longing for an energy like before the matches against Waldhof Mannheim and Hansa Rostock," said the 59-year-old, recalling the vibrant enthusiasm that engulfed the stadium during their 3-1 triumph over Rostock. During that match, Wollitz noted, every player was 'in the zone.' He wouldn't mind if it were the same in Rostock once again.

An Ace Up Sleeve: Ingolstadt's Deadly Strikers

However, Wollitz doesn't underestimate Ingolstadt, a team that, despite being winless in seven games and enduring four consecutive losses, had been contending for promotion spots in the first half of the season. "They've got top-notch strikers," Wollitz warns, one of them being Tim Heike, who left Cottbus after their promotion last year. "Heike knows he's got to keep his cool," Wollitz adds with a chuckle and a knowing nod.

Ready for Action

Wollitz expresses optimism that Lucas Copado, Timmy Thiele, and Niko Brettschneider will be fit to play for the game. The trio had their first light training session on Thursday. Thiele might partner up with Erik Engelhardt in a two-man strike force, a combination Wollitz calls "one of the best things this league has to offer."

If the team manages to achieve their dream and reach the playoffs, they'll host the third-to-last team in the second league on May 23rd. The return match will take place on May 27th (both at 20:30 CET on Sky and Sat.1).

Wollitz's Wish: A Sea of Supporters

With memories of the electric atmosphere during the Rostock game still fresh, Wollitz yearns for a passionate sea of Cottbus supporters to help him and his team in their quest for promotion. Here's to hoping the energy, passion, and support that characterized the Rostock game will manifest again, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that aids Cottbus in their final push towards the second league.
