In an epic victory, the Valtech team, repping the Women's Cultural and Social Society in Kuwait, scooped up the Judges' Award in the High School Category at the 16th VEX World Robotics Championship 2025. This beast of a competition, one of the biggest robotics tourneys in the world, unfolded in Texas, USA, and was brimming with over 1,200 squads from 60 countries.
High school heroes Mohammed Al-Bannai, Fajr Al-Maqhawi, and Yousef Al-Tamimi formed the backbone of this Kuwaiti team, with support from the squad at home - Yousef Al-Obaid, Wedad Reda, Mohammed Al-Ali, and their fearless leader, Latifa Al-Marzouqi.
The Judges' Award is a big-time honor that salutes outstanding accomplishment in areas like teamwork, problem-solving, engineering design, and presentation skills, even for teams that don't bag other top prizes. The panel of judges was mighty impressed with Valtech's exceptional commitment, innovative engineering ideas, and team spirit.
Collaborations with the Department of Computer Science at Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Youth, alongside the Ministry of Education and strategic partners like Zain Kuwait and Al-Sayer Group, were instrumental in the team's months-long training and mentorship process. This powerhouse combo successfully improved their robotics and artificial intelligence skills, setting the stage for their triumph.
Next week, Kuwait's elementary-level squad joins the robotics party as they participate in a seminar alongside the VEX championship. This will mark their first foray into the elementary category.
