Team of Boxers Honored by Tokayev Following World Championship Success

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has hailed the Kazakhstan national boxing team's victory at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool as a historic milestone for the country. The team's triumph, which saw them secure the top spot, marked an important step on the road to the Los Angeles Olympic Games, according to Tokayev.

The ceremony to honour the athletes and coachs took place on September 18, with Tokayev expressing his gratitude to all involved in the collective effort that led to the team's success. Coachs, sports officials, and medical staff were all thanked for their contributions.

During the ceremony, state honours were awarded to the athletes and coachs. However, no further information about the specific state honours was provided.

The Kazakhstan Boxing Federation and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, along with the National Olympic Committee, were recognised for their significant contributions to the overall success of the team.

President Tokayev also took the opportunity to thank boxing legends Ikomoniya Botowamungu and Gennady Golovkin for their roles in helping to return boxing to the Olympic program. Botowamungu, who was involved in the return of boxing to the Olympic program, was thanked by Tokayev during the ceremony.

In addition to celebrating the team's success, President Tokayev highlighted boxing's legacy in Kazakhstan and proposed it as a national symbol. He also announced the upcoming launch of the National University of Sports and new investments in sports coaching infrastructure.

The event, which had 68 participating nations, saw Kazakhstan carry the honour of the country on the global stage, inspiring the nation with their victories.

The Akorda press service reported the event, with Tokayev describing the achievement as a historic milestone for the country. The team's triumph at the World Boxing Championships is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the athletes, coachs, and support staff, and a source of national pride for Kazakhstan.
