Team Kings and their General Manager (GM) decide to end their professional relationship at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

L.A. Kings' Fourth-Straight Playoff Shortfall Sparks Change

Looks like the L.A. Kings aren't gonna make it to hockey's ultimate prize again, as their elimination by the Edmonton Oilers in the playoffs left a sour taste for fans. For the fourth time in a row, the Kings faced the same bitter end in the first round of the playoffs, this time at the hands of Edmonton yet again.

But after going down in flames once more, the Kings weren't about to merely shrug it off. On Monday, they decided it was high time for a change, with Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake stepping down from his position, the team announced via social media.

"Sayonara, Rob Blake! It's a wrap!" the Kings teased on their socials. "After 8 seasons as our VP/GM, we've parted ways," they continued, hinting at a new broom sweeping clean at the Kings' headquarters. "Time for a fresh face!"

Blake has been at the helm since 2017, crafting a formidable team on the ice, but Hollywood hasn't seen a playoff series victory since he took over. In fact, the last Kings' playoff series triumph came all the way back in 2014.

Kopitar Collected His Thoughts, McDavid Spilled Tea on the Rivalry

With losses accumulating and a playoff series win eluding the team, it's only natural to wonder what went wrong. Anze Kopitar, the Kings' captain, mustered up the courage to call out their playoff woes following their fourth loss to Edmonton, while Connor McDavid, the Oilers' ace, weighed in on losing to the Kings yet again.

A Change Was Long Overdue

The skirmish ended with a loss that was a hard pill to swallow for the Kings, especially since it was their home ice where they lost their advantage—a first in their four playoff battles with Edmonton. With the possibility of a playoff series win on the table, the latest defeat plants the seed of doubt in the team's future prospects.

So, what's next for the youth-laden Kings and their fanbase? With a new man (or woman) behind the reigns, there's a glimmer of hope that the Kings will finally cross the finish line and make a deep playoff run. It may just be what they need to turn this fabled L.A. franchise back into a dynasty.
