HSV initiates its initial training session with a new squad - Team gathers for initial training: HSV initiates first training camp

Hamburger SV (HSV) has embarked on its first summer training camp for the 2025/26 season, taking place from July 14 to 18 at the Adidas Homeground in Herzogenaurach. The facility, which was also used by the German national team during Euro 2024, plays host to around 30 players as HSV prepares for the new season.

The camp has been designed to address weaknesses highlighted in the team's recent 0-1 friendly loss to FC Copenhagen. Daily training sessions, scheduled twice a day, are focused on sport-specific preparation under head coach Merlin Polzin and his staff.

The squad for the camp comprises six talented youths alongside professional players, showcasing a blend of experience and promising newcomers. Notably, Yussuf Poulsen has joined the team ahead of the camp, replacing Davie Selke who recently left.

Following the conclusion of the camp on Friday, July 18, HSV will travel approximately 120 km to Austria for a friendly match against SK Sturm Graz on Saturday, July 19, at 16:00 CEST. Sturm Graz, reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions, promise to be a strong opponent, making this match a valuable test for HSV.

The training camp is the first of two pre-season camps, with the second set for Mallorca in August. The Herzogenaurach camp's combination of high-intensity training and a challenging friendly aims to lay a solid foundation for HSV's upcoming Bundesliga campaign.

In other news, Matheo Raab has left HSV to join Union Berlin, leaving a vacancy in the squad. The positions previously held by Jonas Meffert and Sebastian Schonlau are being challenged by Nicolai Remberg (Holstein Kiel) and Jordan Torunarigha (KAA Gent).

As HSV gears up for the new season, fans can expect new stimuli, changed constellations, and new players, as coach Merlin Polzin has stated. At least one more creative midfielder, another central defender, and a second goalkeeper are expected to join the HSV squad.
