The Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) team for the upcoming Walker Cup has been announced, with a mix of experienced players and newcomers set to represent the region at the legendary course on California's Monterey Peninsula.
Captain Dean Robertson, who guided GB&I to a victory over the Continent of Europe at the St Andrews Trophy, will lead the team. He will be assisted by Raymond Russell.
The GB&I team features some of the top-ranked amateur golfers in the world, with Tyler Weaver (England), Cameron Adam (Scotland), Dominic Clemons (England), and Connor Graham (Scotland) automatically selected based on their World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
Captain's picks for the team include Eliot Baker (England), Charlie Forster (England), Stuart Grehan (Ireland, making his Walker Cup debut), Luke Poulter (England), and Niall Shiels Donegan (Scotland). Gavin Tiernan (Ireland, County Louth) is also part of the team.
Niall Shiels Donegan (Scotland, Meadow Club) and Stuart Grehan (Ireland, County Louth) are the two newcomers to the Walker Cup team. Shiels Donegan, at the age of 20, and Grehan, who is making his debut at the age of 32, will bring fresh energy to the team.
Caolan Rafferty (Ireland, Dundalk) has been named the team reserve.
The Walker Cup, which has not been played at Cypress Point since 1981, will take place next month. The GB&I team will be aiming to win the trophy for the first time since 2015.
