Yan Couto Recovers from Injury to Start for Borussia Dortmund Against FC St. Pauli

Yan Couto, the Borussia Dortmund defender, has made a swift recovery from a knee injury sustained during the DFB Pokal match on August 18, 2025, and will start in the lineup for the Bundesliga opener against FC St. Pauli on August 30.

Initial concerns arose after a heavy tackle left Couto needing to be stretchered off the pitch. However, subsequent MRI scans revealed no cruciate ligament or structural knee damage, only bruising. This positive update was confirmed by Sky Germany, who also indicated that Couto could be included in the squad for the match.

The recovery is a significant boost for Borussia Dortmund, who are currently managing several defensive injuries.

On the pitch, the match was dominated by Borussia, who had the majority of possession but failed to create many notable chances. Only Felix Nmecha (4') and Maximilian Beier (36') had opportunities, while St. Pauli had fewer chances overall.

The only goal of the match came in the 79th minute, when Serhou Guirassy scored for St. Pauli. The goal was a covered shot, with Guirassy pushing through with his back to the goal. RWE goalkeeper Jakob Golz could only watch as the ball went in.

The biggest opportunity of the first half belonged to St. Pauli, with Ramien Safi running free towards Gregor Kobel, but failing to convert (41'). Borussia had a lot of possession but struggled to create clear chances, with Guirassy's goal proving to be the difference.
