Taylor Ward signs two-year extension with the LA Kings through 2028
Taylor Ward has secured a new two-year deal with the LA Kings, extending his stay through the 2027-28 NHL season. The 27-year-old forward, originally from Kelowna, B.C., first joined the organisation as an undrafted free agent in March 2022 and has since worked his way up from the minors to the NHL roster.
Ward's journey began in junior hockey with the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League. He later spent four years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he tallied 115 points in 131 NCAA games.
After turning pro, he signed with the Kings in 2022 and quickly made an impact. His NHL debut came on April 17 that same year, where he scored against Calgary. Since then, he has split time between the Kings and their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. This season, Ward posted 12 goals and 21 points in 32 AHL games before earning a call-up. In nine NHL appearances, he added two goals and four points. Over his AHL career, he has recorded 116 points in 256 regular-season outings. The new contract carries an average annual value of $875,000, reflecting his steady progress and contributions at both the NHL and AHL levels.
Ward's extension keeps him with the Kings for two more NHL seasons. His development from junior hockey to the NHL highlights his persistence and skill. The deal ensures he remains part of the team's forward group moving forward.
