Taylor Swift's Directorial Debut 'Showgirl' Smashes Presales, Eyes $45M Opening

Taylor Swift's directorial debut, 'Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl', is set to hit AMC Theatres worldwide, with a low-key marketing push focused on social media. The music documentary, featuring Swift herself, is already generating buzz with impressive presales.

The film, which Swift directed, is slated for release in multiple locations, including the Netherlands, starting October 2, 2025. It's already raked in $15M in first-day sales, with AMC seeing their sixth-biggest first day presales ever at around $7.5M, now north of $20M.

Swift is set to promote the film with appearances on 'The Tonight Show' on Oct. 6 and 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' on Oct. 8, and there's even buzz about a possible cameo on the 'Saturday Night Live' Season 51 opener.

Box office projections are optimistic, with estimates ranging from $30M to $35M domestically and $8M to $10M internationally, totaling a global opening weekend of $45M. The film will share premium large formats with 'Avatar: The Way of Water', which is expected to gross $3M-$4M in its 3D re-release weekend.

The film's success is largely driven by the U.S./Canada market, with women under 25 being the primary audience.

In other box office news, Bleecker Street's 'Bone Lake' is set to release in 1,045 sites with a RT critics score of 94% fresh, while IFC's 'Good Boy' is expected to release in around 1,650 theaters with a RT critics score of 93% fresh. A24's 'The Smashing Machine', initially projected for $20M, is now expected to open with $9M-$10M at 3,000 theaters.
