Taylor Swift has announced her latest project, "The Life of a Showgirl," her 12th studio album. This new collection, which consists of 22 songs, includes tracks from her previous albums such as Red, 1989, and Reputation.

The album title breaks Swift's historical pattern of one-word album names, following her recent The Tortured Poets Department. The announcement came in early August 2025, with hints and Easter eggs dropped months earlier, including a cryptic mention of "12" in a celebratory letter about her having regained ownership of her masters.

The album marks a new "era" for Taylor Swift, with a thematic focus suggested by the title, emphasizing show business and possibly a theatrical or narrative concept. The release date is set for October 3, 2025. Production credits include Max Martin, Shellback, and Taylor Swift herself, indicating collaboration with longtime producers who have shaped her sound.

Fans and critics have noted that Swift has been actively building excitement through color-coded stage moments, cryptic social media activity, and a countdown on her website. The album's tracklist reveals new songs such as "The Fate of Ophelia," "Elizabeth Taylor," and "Opalite," suggesting a possible thematic or narrative thread centered on personas, fame, and legacy.

In addition to the album, a special limited vinyl edition will be released in "Portofino orange glitter." Taylor Swift will also appear on the "New Heights" podcast. Previous "Taylor's Version" releases have included new music, Easter eggs, and visuals that deepen understanding of her work. The album was announced on Swift's website after a countdown timer expired at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday. No release date for the album was announced, but vinyl editions are expected to ship before Oct. 13.
