Taylor Swift Announces 12th Studio Album, "The Life of a Showgirl"

Pop icon Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, titled "The Life of a Showgirl." The highly-anticipated release is set to drop on October 3, 2025[1][3][4].

The announcement was made on Taylor Swift's official website after a countdown timer expired at 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday. The news was preceded by a series of cryptic posts from Taylor Nation, an official branch of Swift's marketing team, on TikTok, featuring Swift wearing orange[1].

"The Life of a Showgirl" will consist of 12 tracks and delves into a joyful and dramatic period in Swift's life experienced during her previous tour[1]. The album is a part of Swift's project to rerecord and release her first six albums, following the release of "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and "Red (Taylor's Version)"[2].

Swift's rerecorded albums often include new "from the vault" music, Easter eggs, and visuals that deepen the understanding of her work. Fans can expect similar surprises with "The Life of a Showgirl."

A special limited vinyl edition of the album will be available in "Portofino orange glitter." Vinyl editions will ship before October 13[5]. A cassette edition of the album is also available for pre-order.

Swift's appearance on the "New Heights" podcast, where she announced the album, was announced early Tuesday. During the podcast, Swift pulled out the album "The Life of a Showgirl" from a briefcase in a teaser video[6]. The popular podcast posted a tease for Wednesday, featuring an orange image with a mysterious silhouette, which many believe to be Swift[7].

Fans have long theorised that Swift's 12th album would soon arrive. The purchase and sale of Swift's early catalog by Scooter Braun instigated the rerecording project[8]. Swift purchased her catalog of recordings from Shamrock Capital in May[9].

So far, all four rerecorded albums have been commercial and cultural successes, each one debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. "The Life of a Showgirl" is Swift's first album since regaining control over her entire catalog of recordings.
