Tax rate remains stable as populace endorses three proposals in Grand Prairie
In a big win for Grand Prairie, the townsfolk gave a resounding 'yes' to Proposition A, aiming to sustain the city's sales and use tax rate for further street repairs and maintenance.
At stake was the reauthorization of the local sales and use tax at a rate of one-fourth of one percent, a figure that's been at 8.25% for the past two decades, earmarked for municipal streets. The proposition, in essence, aimed to renew 0.25% of that tax for another eight years.
Voters also green-lit another proposition to include a Deputy Mayor Pro Tem in the city's charter amendment. This role would kick in when both the mayor and mayor pro tem are unavailable. The position would be filled by a City Council member and chosen by the council.
Among the approved propositions was one to polish up the city charter, correcting typos, eliminating redundancies, and making necessary alterations to ensure language is gender-neutral and complies with state and federal laws.
While the specific typos weren't disclosed, the proposition aimed to address inconsistencies or redundancies, fix typographical errors, make any needed linguistic gender-neutral adjustments, and modify any language that clashes with or is preempted by other state or federal legislation.
