Tawee replaced by Chusak in charge of DSI's operations
The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in Thailand has a new temporary leader, as Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced during a recent Cabinet meeting that PM's Office Minister Chusak Sirinil would take charge of the department.
Chusak Sirinil, a seasoned politician, has been assigned to oversee the DSI in place of Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong, who is currently embroiled in a case at the Constitutional Court. The case concerns allegations that Tawee Sodsong overstepped his authority by improperly deploying the DSI.
The case was brought by 92 senators, who are seeking to have Tawee removed from office due to these alleged misconduct. As of early August 2025, the case is ongoing at the Constitutional Court, with no final ruling or decision reported yet.
Meanwhile, political processes, such as appointments to the Constitutional Court, continued during this period. However, these processes were not without controversy, as motions to delay agendas due to potential conflicts of interest involving senators were also raised.
In summary, the Constitutional Court is currently considering the case against Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong, who has temporarily stepped aside from his duties at the DSI due to the ongoing proceedings. The outcome of this case remains to be seen.
