Wacken Open Air 2025: A Rain-Soaked Beginning, Sunny Prospects
Arrivals for the 34th edition of the Wacken Open Air festival commenced on Sunday, July 26, 2025, in the Kreis Steinburg region of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Despite a cool, cloudy, and occasionally rainy start, with temperatures around 19°C, the arrival of the first metal fans went smoothly until midday.
Camping areas were now open for festival-goers, who were instructed to follow the signs for their selected Access Pass routes, have their ticket code and Access Pass ready before entering, and pick up their festival wristbands upon arrival. Shuttle buses ran free of charge from Itzehoe train station for ticket holders, and bicycle parking was provided, albeit with restrictions near emergency exits.
Travelers were advised to follow traffic control instructions, allow sufficient travel time, and bring necessary supplies such as water and power banks for updates. The weather improved on Monday, July 27, with temperatures rising to 22°C and some sunshine.
Wacken Open Air is no stranger to variable, often wet weather conditions during the festival. In 2023, persistent rain put the event in jeopardy, resulting in a complete entry ban and an estimated 50,000 attendees instead of the planned 85,000. However, so far, the rain in recent days does not seem to be causing any problems or delays for the 2025 festival.
Organizers are communicating with festival-goers via Instagram regarding the current weather and safe travels. Co-founder Holger Hübner expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the festival for the 34th time in 2025. The festival is expected to welcome a total of 85,000 international metal fans from July 30 to August 2.

Among the bands performing on Sunday, July 26, were Guns N' Roses, Machine Head, Papa Roach, Gojira, King Diamond, Within Temptation, and Saltatio Mortis.
