Tamil Nadu braces for heavy rain and thunderstorms on Sunday

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday, 23 November. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued warnings for multiple districts, with some areas already experiencing downpours. Authorities have alerted residents to possible disruptions from waterlogging and slippery roads.

The IMD (India Meteorological Department) had earlier forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning until 10 am. By 4 am on Sunday, four districts were placed under an orange alert, though their names were not specified. A broader yellow warning covered 17 districts, including Kanyakumari, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tenkasi, Thiruvarur, and Karaikal.

The IMD’s warnings remain in effect for much of Sunday, with thunderstorms and heavy rain expected to ease by late morning. Residents in alerted districts have been advised to stay updated on weather bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel. Local authorities are monitoring conditions to address any flooding or road safety issues.
