Tall Ship Providence Initiates Monthly Shanty Sings on Thursdays Commencing This Week

In the vibrant city of Alexandria, a variety of events and developments are set to take place this week. Here's a rundown of what you can expect.

Criminal Indictment and Tragic Incident

A man who was recently indicted for dating app fraud has also been reported to have jumped from a King Street balcony. Meanwhile, a Woodbridge man regrettably lost his life in Alexandria police custody following a public intoxication arrest on Aug. 16, 2025. A man has also been indicted on murder and child abuse charges in relation to an infant's death.

Community Events and Entertainment

The Tall Ship Providence, a replica of an 18th-century Continental Navy sloop-of-war, will host its inaugural Shanty Sing on Thursday, Aug. 21. This maritime singing tradition, led by the Ship's Company Chanteymen, will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month during the ship's regular season. Participants of all experience levels are welcome to join this unique musical event. Proceeds from beverage sales support the Tall Ship Providence's Field Trip Program.
