Taldykorgan's $50M Smart City Push Transforms Urban Safety with AI and Surveillance
Taldykorgan is pushing forward with a major smart city initiative to improve public safety and urban management. The region plans to invest billions in new technology, including surveillance systems, AI monitoring, and a centralised control hub. These upgrades aim to reduce accidents, streamline governance, and enhance daily life for residents. A key part of the project is a 4.6 billion tenge city management centre, designed to oversee real-time data and decision-making. This hub will coordinate operations across the region, linking to over 20,000 cameras already monitoring traffic and public spaces.
The surveillance expansion continues with a 23.5 billion tenge public-private partnership. This will add 6,560 new cameras, building on the 436 photo and video enforcement units installed in 2024–2025. The TargetAI system, featuring facial recognition, is already active in 33 locations. Operational control centres are now running in eight district hubs, with another opening soon in Tekeli. A pilot project will also test AI for road condition monitoring. Additionally, authorities are considering smart pedestrian crossings in high-risk accident zones to further boost safety.
The upgrades will create a connected digital network for Taldykorgan, supporting faster emergency responses and better urban planning. With thousands of cameras and AI tools in place, the region expects improved traffic management and public security in the coming years.
