Tajikistan hosts Kolkata's Sapphire Creations Dance Company for their annual Independence Day celebration in 2025.
The Sapphire Creations Dance Company, a dance troupe based in Kolkata, embarked on a cultural tour of Tajikistan from August 15 to August 22, 2025. Led by choreographer Sudarshan Chakravorty, the 12-member team presented their production Atithi Devo Bhava: Celebrating Bharat in the cities of Dushanbe, Bokhtar, and Istaravshan.
The tour commenced with a participation in the Indian flag hoisting ceremony at the Embassy of India in Dushanbe on August 15. The performances that followed showcased a blend of dance, music, and visuals, lasting for 75 minutes. The production highlighted India's rich folk traditions and festivals, including Bengal's Patachitra and Bhatiyali, Gujarat's Dandia Raas, and Maharashtra's Ganesh Chaturthi.
The performances took place at various venues such as the Takil State Academy Opera, House of Culture, Cultural Palace, and Mug Tepe Fort. These cultural events were attended by members of the Indian community, friends of India in Tajikistan, and embassy officials, demonstrating the strong cultural ties between the two countries.
The Sapphire Creations Dance Company's tour was part of the ICCR-sponsored cultural outreach, aiming to celebrate India's independence and connect with diaspora and international audiences in Tajikistan. The performances emphasized the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world as one family—celebrating Indian culture and fostering kinship beyond borders.
The finale of the performance was heightened by the sounds of friendship between Tajikistan and India, symbolizing the unity and harmony that transcends borders. The Sapphire Creations Dance Company's tour in Tajikistan was a testament to the power of art and culture in fostering mutual understanding and appreciation between nations.
