Taiwanese blogger, returned from detention, granted bail, but restricted from departing Taiwan
Taiwan's Notorious Blogger "Lady Nai Nai" Faces Justice
Remember Lady Nai Nai, the controversial Taiwanese blogger who fled to Canada six years back to dodge fraud charges? Well, she's back, and this time the authorities aren't letting her slip through their fingers.
Last night, Su Chen-tuan, the real name of the blogger famously known as Lady Nai Nai, was freed on bail, but not without restrictions. In a turn of events, she's now under house arrest, under electronic surveillance, and is barred from traveling.
Su's return to Taiwan marked the culmination of a long-standing drama that started in 2018 when her cosmetic surgery clinic, Ab Initio Medicina, abruptly shut down. Along with her ex-boyfriend, Paul Huang, and his father, Huang Li-hsiung, she is accused of defrauding investors of approximately NT$180 million (US$5.6 million).
Meanwhile, authorities are still on the hunt for Paul Huang. Their jurisdiction doesn't allow for a direct pursuit in Canada, leaving a tantalizing question mark hanging over his whereabouts.
Up until her blog's closure in 2013, Lady Nai Nai had amassed more than 46 million views, and her Facebook page boasted over 300,000 followers. She gained notoriety in the early 2000s for her frank blogging about her relationship with Paul Huang and her personal reflections on life. Now, however, she's in the spotlight for a very different reason.
As the Taipei District Prosecutors Office delves deeper into the case, we await further developments. Su has expressed her willingness to cooperate with the investigation and clear her name. Let's see if her testimony can shed some light on the murky water of this fraud case. Stay tuned for updates!
