In the upcoming series between Australia and South Africa, all eyes will be on Glenn Maxwell as he aims to join an exclusive group of cricketers.

Maxwell, currently Australia's third-highest run-getter in T20Is with 2,754 runs in 121 matches and 111 innings, is on the brink of joining an elite group of players with 2,500-plus runs and 50 or more wickets in T20Is.

The series, commencing on August 9, will be a significant milestone for Maxwell. With 46 wickets to his name, including best figures of 3/10, he is just a few wickets away from joining the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez, and Virandeep Singh.

Maxwell's T20I average stands at 29.29, with a strike rate of 156.03. He has scored five centuries and 11 fifties, showcasing his consistent performance in the shortest format of the game.

In the recent T20Is played this year, Maxwell has scored 90 runs at an average of 18.00 and a strike rate in excess of 195, with a best score of 47. He has also taken three wickets, with best figures of 2/15.

The Australian squad for the series includes Travis Head, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Tim David, Maxwell himself, Mitchell Owen, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, Sean Abbott, Matthew Short, and Matthew Kuhnemann.

On the South African side, Aiden Markram will captain the team, with Ryan Rickelton as the wicket-keeper. The other members of the squad are Rassie van der Dussen, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, George Linde, Prenelan Subrayen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi, Senuran Muthusamy, Nqabayomzi Peter, Kwena Maphaka, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
