Szymon Marciniak, a renowned name in the world of football refereeing, has clinched the most coveted title - the Best Football Referee in the World for 2023. This prestigious honor was bestowed upon him by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
Known for his exceptional skills and unwavering dedication, Marciniak has once again proved his mettle in the international football arena. His formal award ceremony took place during a UEFA meeting in Geneva in August.
Unsurprising Success
Given his recent achievements, Marciniak's success wasn't a shocker. In 2022, he officiated the World Cup final in Qatar. His dream run continued this year, where he was the referee for both the Champions League final and the Club World Cup.
In the 2023 IFFHS rankings, Marciniak outshone his competitors, including Italy's Daniele Orsato and France's Clement Turpin. Notably, only one referee from outside Europe made it to the top ten - Wilmar Roldan from Colombia, who secured the eighth position.
