System Malfunction: Deviating from Normal Functioning
In an unfortunate incident, a collision occurred on the A4 heading towards Dresden near the Erfurter Kreuz intersection. The driver of a Skoda, aged 24, and his 23-year-old passenger were both injured in the accident.
The incident took place when the driver, in a last-minute decision, switched lanes to merge onto the A71. Unfortunately, this sudden manoeuvre resulted in a collision with the traffic separator. The impact caused the Skoda to veer off to the right and come to a stop in the grass median.
Due to the recovery operations following the accident, the merge onto the A71 had to be temporarily closed. The Skoda, being no longer roadworthy, had to be towed away. Estimates suggest that the property damage from the collision amounts to 10,000 euros.
The Thuringian Police are investigating the incident. For inquiries, members of the public can contact the Autobahn Police Station Press Office. Natalie Meier, working in the press office of the Autobahnpolizeiinspektion (motorway police inspection) at the Erfurter Kreuz location, can be reached at 036601 70103 or via email at [email protected].
The Thuringian Police's Autobahn Police Station website is available at http://www.thueringen.de/th3/polizei/autobahnpolizeiinspektion/index.aspx for further information.
We hope that the driver and his passenger make a speedy recovery from their injuries. Drivers are reminded to always exercise caution on the roads, especially when merging lanes.
