Syracuse University clarifies the cancellation of Fetty Wap's concert, with no refunds offered to ticket holders
Fetty Wap Cancels Performance at Syracuse University's Juice Jam Festival
Fetty Wap, the American rapper known for his hits "Trap Queen" and "My Way," failed to show up for his scheduled performance at Syracuse University's Juice Jam music festival on Sunday. The student-run organisation, University Union, announced the cancellation at approximately 5:40 p.m., causing a stir among the 3,000 students in attendance.
The early ending of the event sparked backlash against Fetty Wap on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram. This incident is not the first time the artist has caused controversy, as he cut short a set at Firefly Music Festival this summer and canceled a show altogether at SUNY Brockport in April.
Erin Singleton and Rico Pedraza, UU's co-directors of concerts, offered sympathy for the fans and students. However, no apology was given regarding the situation. DJ Marshmello, D.R.A.M., and Tove Lo performed as scheduled at the event, which took place on Syracuse University's campus.
University Union is planning to apply Fetty Wap's artist fee towards "further enhancing our upcoming concerts." Meanwhile, the Student Association (SA) is instead distributing the money across other student organisations. The festival's curfew of 6 p.m. led to the event being ended early.
Tickets for the Juice Jam event were $20 for Syracuse and SUNY-ESF students, but refunds will not be offered. It is worth noting that IDs are not recorded at the time of purchase and are not scanned upon event entry for the Juice Jam event.
In a positive note, a "Rock the Dome" concert is being planned for November, and the annual Mayfest and Block Party concerts will take place in spring. For more information about the cancellation or any updates on future concerts, students are encouraged to check official announcements from Syracuse University, Juice Jam organisers, or Fetty Wap's official channels.
Fetty Wap's cancellation at the Juice Jam music festival left disappointed students seeking alternative sources of entertainment, such as his music recordings. The sudden end of the event sparked complaints on social media, with fans expressing their disappointment over missing his performance.
