Syracuse suffers defeat as Jared Young hits a home run against Lehigh Valley
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs secured a decisive 8-2 victory over the Syracuse Mets in a thrilling matchup at Coca-Cola Park on Thursday night. The game marked the third to last of the 2025 season for both teams.
The Syracuse Mets started the game with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a solo home run by Jared Young in the top of the first inning. However, the IronPigs responded swiftly, tying the game in the bottom of the fourth when Christian Arroyo, Felix Reyes, and Rodolfo Castro contributed to their offense.
The IronPigs took the lead for good in the same inning, with Arroyo hitting a three-run homer to make the score 4-1. The Mets fought back, with Jett Williams hitting a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, scoring Luis De Los Santos and bringing the score to 4-2.
However, the IronPigs continued to pile on the runs. In the bottom of the eighth, Payton Henry, Erick Brito, and Gabriel Rincones Jr. loaded the bases, setting the stage for Brandon Marsh, who hit a three-run home run to extend the lead over the Mets. On a wild pitch by Yacksel Rios, Henry scored, increasing the IronPigs' lead to 8-2.
The Mets struggled to mount a comeback, with the IronPigs' defense holding firm. The final score remained 8-2, giving the IronPigs the win and moving them closer to the International League second half standings leaders, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, who they are currently three games behind.
The Syracuse Mets and Lehigh Valley IronPigs are set to face off again on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. as the 2025 season races towards its conclusion. Both teams will be looking to secure valuable wins in their final matches.
