Syktyvkar battles severe flooding after record storms cut off ferry routes

Syktyvkar has faced severe flooding after heavy storms hit the region on 23 May. Municipal crews are working urgently to clear blocked drains and restore damaged infrastructure. Residents have been given emergency contact numbers to report further issues.

The storm caused widespread disruption, washing out access roads to the ferry route between Alyoshino and Sedkyrkesh. Repairs have now been completed, allowing transport links to resume.

Across the city, stormwater systems were overwhelmed. Zhilkomservis teams cleared clogged drains and manholes along Kolkhoznaya Street and its intersections with Lenin, Pervomayskaya, Morokhova, Pechorskaya, Kariernaya, Oplesnina, and Kommunisticheskaya streets. Inspections of flood-prone areas remain ongoing, with crews operating in an intensified regime. Further maintenance is taking place on the stormwater network. Streets affected include Dmitrieva, Lytkina, Pechorskaya, Kolkhoznaya, Lenin, Morozova, Oplesnina, Oktyabrsky Prospect, Pervomayskaya, Kommunisticheskaya, Starovskogo, Marysheva, Kariernaya, Savina, and Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya. Residents can report new flooding incidents to Zhilkomkhoz dispatch at +7 (8212) 322-347 or 322-612. The unified emergency line, 20-11-20, is also available for urgent cases.

The city’s response continues as crews address the aftermath of the storm. Access to the ferry route has been restored, and drainage systems are being checked to prevent further flooding. Officials urge residents to stay vigilant and report any ongoing problems.
