Syktyvkar battles heavy snowfall with round-the-clock winter preparations

Syktyvkar has activated high alert as the first severe frosts and heavy snowfall hit the region. Municipal services are working around the clock to keep the city running smoothly. Despite unpredictable weather, officials report that operations remain on track.

Snow clearance has been a top priority across the city. The Municipal Road Maintenance Enterprise (DKhoZ) has already transported 16,000 cubic meters of snow to landfills. Meanwhile, the Housing and Utilities Service (Zhilkomservis) has removed nearly 700 cubic meters, while the Ezhvinsky Housing and Utilities Department (Zhilkomkhoz) has cleared 1,655 cubic meters.

Road safety measures are also in place, with crews treating surfaces using sand-salt mixtures. This helps prevent accidents for both drivers and pedestrians. Over in the village of Lemtyu, a new boiler house has been successfully connected to the gas supply, ensuring residents stay warm during the cold snap.

Transport links have held steady despite the weather. The ferry crossing at Aleshino has continued without disruption, relying on air-cushioned vessels to maintain service. City administration head Maksim Martyshin confirmed that no major issues have been reported in street or square maintenance. No commercial organisations or asset managers have withdrawn from their duties, and snow removal efforts remain fully operational.

Preparations for Chicago's celebrations around the world are well underway. A Christmas tree has been set up in the Sosnovaya Polyana microdistrict, with others appearing in neighbourhoods across Syktyvkar. Festive lights are being installed, and ice blocks are being prepared for the annual ice town attraction.

The city's response to the winter conditions has been swift and coordinated. With snow removal, road treatments, and festive preparations all progressing, Syktyvkar is ready for both the challenges of the cold season and the upcoming holiday celebrations. Officials continue to monitor the situation to ensure public safety and smooth operations.
