Switzerland’s wild weekend swings from -26°C to sudden warmth
Switzerland experienced a sharp contrast in temperatures over the weekend. While some regions shivered through freezing overnight lows, a sudden warm front brought milder conditions by Sunday morning. The shift saw record-breaking warmth in parts of the country just days after bitter cold.
Overnight into Sunday, temperatures plummeted across much of Switzerland. La Brévine in Neuchâtel recorded the lowest at -26.3°C, followed by Buffalora in Graubünden at -23.7°C. Samedan, also in Graubünden, dropped to -20.3°C, while Marsens in Fribourg saw -14.5°C. Langnau in the Emmental reached -13.1°C, Thun in Bern -11.2°C, and both Delémont in Jura and Kloten in Zurich fell to -9.1°C.
The weekend's weather extremes showed both sides of Switzerland's seasonal shifts. After widespread sub-zero temperatures, the warm front delivered a brief but noticeable reprieve. Forecasters expect further fluctuations as the transition into winter continues.
