Switzerland succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Norway in their Women's Euro opening match.

In a thrilling encounter at the St. Jakob-Park Stadium, Norway emerged victorious against Switzerland in the Women's Euro 2025 Championship. After trailing 1-0 in the first half, Norway displayed a remarkable turnaround, winning the match 2-1.

The Swiss dominated the opening 45 minutes, with Geraldine Reuteler coming close to giving them the lead in the 24th minute, her shot hitting the crossbar. Reuteler had numerous opportunities to equalise, but it was not to be for the Swiss side.

In the 28th minute, Switzerland took a 1-0 lead through Nadine Riesen's goal. However, Norway's Ada Hegerberg equalised in the 54th minute, scoring from a corner. The equaliser was a significant boost for the Norwegian team, providing them with the momentum they needed to turn the match around.

Switzerland were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute, but Hegerberg missed the opportunity for Norway. Despite this setback, Norway showed improvement in both their defensive and offensive play during the second half, with Graham Hansen, the vice-captain, mentioning that they were told to run more during the break.

The turning point came in the 58th minute when Switzerland's Julia Stierli scored an own goal, giving Norway the lead. The victory was not the prettiest, but Norway managed to forcefully turn the match around, securing their place at the top of Group A.

Swiss coach Pia Sundhage was unhappy with the result, feeling that her side did not get more out of the game. Hegerberg, however, stated that the victory was important for the team, acknowledging the challenges they faced and the resilience they showed to come back from behind.

This was the first time Norway had defeated Switzerland in the Women's Euro 2025, having previously beaten them twice in 2025, both by a single goal. The victory marks a significant milestone for the Norwegian team as they continue their journey in the championship.
