Switzerland Leads Push for Ambitious Emission Cuts at COP30
The 30th UN Climate Conference (COP30) is set to take place in Brazil, with Switzerland playing a significant role. Led by Felix Wertli, the Swiss delegation aims to drive ambitious reduction targets and strengthen private sector involvement in climate protection.
COP30 will focus on the implementation and evolution of the Paris Agreement. Switzerland, represented by Felix Wertli from the Bundesamt für Umwelt, hopes to encourage all countries to submit new, ambitious targets for greenhouse gas emissions.
The Swiss government is optimistic about the conference, with plans to reduce its own emissions by at least 65% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels. Apart from mitigation, adaptation to climate change will be a key theme. Countries will work towards introducing internationally comparable indicators to track progress.
At COP30, Switzerland will push for enhanced international investment in climate protection and closer involvement of the private sector. With Felix Wertli at the helm, the Swiss delegation is committed to driving meaningful progress towards the goals of the Paris Agreement.
