Switzerland Faces Record-Breaking Rainfall in October 2025

October 2025 brought extreme rainfall to parts of Switzerland, with some areas recording their highest precipitation levels in over a century. The month saw widespread above-average downpours, particularly along the northern Alpine ridge and in Wallis, where totals surpassed 200% of the usual reference period. Despite the wet conditions, autumn temperatures remained close to normal across the country.

Several intense storms and prolonged fog followed by stormy weather contributed to the record-breaking rainfall. At Leukerbad, October’s precipitation ranked as the fifth-highest in 140 years of recorded data. Local stations reported totals rarely seen since the late 19th century.

The extreme rainfall in October 2025 marked one of Switzerland’s wettest months in recorded history. Despite the downpours, autumn temperatures remained stable, and November brought brighter skies. The data highlights the variability of Swiss weather patterns within a single season.
