SWISS slashes Geneva flights to 11 destinations, including Italy’s Brindisi

SWISS is set to make significant changes to its flight network from Geneva, starting March 29, 2026. The airline will discontinue services to 11 destinations, including Italy's Brindisi, while also reducing short-haul services by 25% due to resource bottlenecks. Meanwhile, farmers in Appenzell are voluntarily testing their milk for PFAS chemicals, and Ticino crematoria offer discounts to Italian customers.

SWISS will no longer serve Berlin, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Oslo, Munich, Alicante, Italy's Brindisi, Hurghada, Kalamata, Kos, and Mao (Menorca) from Geneva. The decision comes as part of a 25% reduction in short-haul services from Geneva, aiming to optimize fleet deployment between Zurich and Geneva. However, the airline plans to increase flights to popular destinations like Valencia, Manchester, Budapest, and Italy's Venice.

In other news, over 200 farmers in Appenzell Inner Rhodes and Appenzell Outer Rhodes are proactively testing their milk for PFAS 'forever chemicals'. The voluntary initiative is due to suspected contamination from sewage sludge used as fertiliser before 2006. Although not yet legally regulated in Switzerland's Appenzeller milk, long-term exposure to PFAS may increase cancer risk and weaken the immune system.

In the Canton of Ticino, crematoria offer discounts of up to 30% to customers from Italy. Cremations cost around CHF450 ($561) for Italian customers, compared to around CHF800 for Ticino residents, the highest rate in Switzerland. The search results do not provide specific information about which operators run the five crematoria in Ticino or details about the price competition with Italian competitors affecting local cremation fees.

Looking ahead, SWISS will drop five business and six leisure destinations from its Geneva short-haul network starting with the 2026 summer schedule. The Munich route is the only one to be taken over by SWISS parent company Lufthansa. Additionally, SWISS will expand its offering from Zurich next summer with two new destinations: Poznan (Poland) and Rijeka (Croatia).

SWISS' changes to its Geneva flight network will impact several destinations, with some services being discontinued and others expanded. Meanwhile, farmers in Appenzell take proactive measures to ensure the safety of their milk, and Ticino crematoria offer discounts to Italian customers. The Canton of Ticino has pledged to support affected farmers if necessary, as the test results could be decisive for the region's cheese production, a key export industry.
