Swiss Post Recruits Italian Workers to Fill Valais Labor Shortage

Swiss Post is grappling with a scarcity of postal employees in Upper Valais. To plug the gaps, the company has initiated a recruitment drive in northern Italy. The decision follows difficulties in finding suitable candidates within Switzerland itself.

The company is currently advertising for a part-time delivery position in Baltschieder, a small municipality in Valais. With few local applicants, Swiss Post has turned to Italian newspapers to attract candidates. Nine Italian cross-border commuters already serve the company in Brig, Visp, and Baltschieder.

The recruitment drive in Italy aims to tackle staff shortages in Upper Valais. Swiss Post insists that hiring from abroad is a measure of last resort. Meanwhile, the union continues to advocate for improved compensation to draw local workers.
