Swiss Post profits dip in 2025 as digital services surge amid mail decline

Swiss Post has reported a drop in profits for 2025, despite maintaining strong service standards. The company remains one of Europe's most efficient postal operators, running without state subsidies while offering the lowest letter prices when adjusted for purchasing power. However, declining letter volumes and financial pressures have pushed net profit down by CHF 20 million to CHF 315 million.

The company's operating profit stood at CHF 332 million in 2025, a decrease from the previous year but still described as solid. Revenue also fell to CHF 7.3 billion, largely due to lower interest income and a sharp drop in traditional mail. Letter volumes have plummeted by 25% since 2021, from 1.2 billion to 900 million, costing Swiss Post CHF 82 million annually.

Yet digital services are growing rapidly. The Swiss Post app, launched in 2021, saw a 60% jump in digital shipments last year, with 4.5 million items sent electronically. Overall, digital transactions—including e-post and app-based services—have surged by 40% each year, reaching over 15 million in 2025. In response, Swiss Post will include digital letters in its universal service from April.

Parcel deliveries rose by 3.7% in 2025, while PostBus carried a record 189 million passengers. To adapt, the company is focusing on logistics, communication, mobility, and financial services for organic growth. Plans are also underway to adjust prices and cut management costs by 2030.

Swiss Post continues to meet all quality targets, even as traditional mail declines. The shift toward digital services and parcel growth offers new opportunities, but financial adjustments will be necessary. The company remains committed to maintaining its leading position in Europe's postal sector.
