In a bold and thought-provoking move, German author Nora Osagiobare has released her debut novel, 'Daily Soap', a sarcastic soap opera that satirically addresses structural everyday racism. The novel, published in 2025, uses exaggerations, overdrawn characters, and ironic footnotes to expose the absurdity of racism.

Osagiobare, who studied literary writing in Biel and Vienna, finds it ridiculous to treat people differently because of the colour of their skin. In an interview with the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper, she stated, 'I chose this sarcastic form to highlight the absurdity of racism.'

Before her debut, another significant publication hit the shelves. Kay Matter's book 'Muscles made of plastic', published by Perplexity Press in 2024, was the first novella to be published before participating in the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2025. Matter's book, which is 240 pages long, also deals with themes of identity and discrimination.

Osagiobare's 'Daily Soap', at 288 pages, is a longer read. After her participation in the Bachmann Prize was announced, she expressed that it's a first for so many people to follow her work live, seeing it as an opportunity for her work to be recognised.

In addition to her novel, Osagiobare also deals with racism in a humorous way on her meme page @fifteenshadesofbrown on Instagram. Her unique approach to addressing racial issues has resonated with many, and her work continues to garner attention and acclaim.
