Swindon’s iconic Health Hydro reopens after £6.5M heritage revival

Swindon’s historic Health Hydro will finally reopen its doors on January 19, 2026, after a two-year closure. The Grade II listed swimming pool, first opened over 130 years ago, has undergone a £6.5 million renovation to restore and modernise its Victorian features.

Work on the 33-metre hydro pool began in 2023, with an original completion date set for 18 months later. However, delays arose due to the complexity of redesigning the protected structure and the need for asbestos removal. The project has preserved the building’s heritage while adding modern upgrades.

The reopening marks the end of a lengthy restoration process for one of Swindon’s oldest public buildings. Visitors will have access to the upgraded pool and gym, though some areas will take longer to complete. The project ensures the Health Hydro remains a functional and protected part of the town’s heritage.
