Swimming Club Mairena Secures absolute and Junior Championships of Andalusia, along with FAN Trophy Victory
The Andalusian Absolute and Junior Open Championship concluded at the Inacua Aquatic Center in Malaga, attracting 496 athletes from 62 clubs. The event was marked by numerous record-breaking performances and impressive team victories.
In the absolute combined classification, Mairena emerged victorious with an impressive total of 1,423 points. Mairena also dominated the junior category, scoring 774 points. This marks the eighth time Mairena has won the FAN Trophy in its history. In the women's category, Mairena completed the triple with a remarkable 867.5 points.
Carmen Balbuena of Inacua Malaga was another standout performer, breaking two Andalusian records during the event. Balbuena set new records in the 50 butterfly (26.97) and 100 meters butterfly (59.22).
In the men's category, the Sevillian squad clinched the team title with 555.5 points. Marcos Ruiz of Union Rinconada lowered the 16-year-old record for 50 breaststroke twice, with his best time at 29.06. Joaquin Pavón of Bahía de Cádiz also broke a record, surpassing the 17-year-old record for 100 butterfly with a time of 53.55.
Maria Gonzalez of CN Montilla improved the 16-year-old record for 50 butterfly twice, with her best time at 27.27. Tamara Frias of Motril Nautical Club set a new record in the 50 backstroke with a time of 27.62.
Alonso Gonzalez of Canoe achieved the best mark in 400 freestyle with a time of 3.46.51. Ismael Franco of the University of Granada improved the 18-year-old record for 50 freestyle, leaving it at 22.63. The University of Granada also took the junior men's team title.
This year's Andalusian Absolute and Junior Open Championship was a thrilling event, showcasing the talent and determination of the participating athletes. The records broken and teams victories will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of swimmers in Andalusia.
