Swimmer from Kolymsk is honing skills in Volgograd
In the heart of Volgograd, at the "Iskra" swimming complex, a promising young athlete named Artem Gal'chin is honing his skills under the watchful eye of his coach, Sergej Wassiljewitsch Kozhakin. Gal'chin, a native of the Magadan Oblast, is currently training at Sports School No. 3, as part of the "I Will Become a Champion!" program.
This comprehensive training program, initiated in 2010, offers a unique opportunity for athletes from remote regions, including Gal'chin's home in Magadan Oblast, to showcase and develop their talents. The program, funded by the Russian Federation of Water Sports, covers travel costs for the athletes and their parents, as well as accommodation and other expenses.
Gal'chin's training is meticulously planned and monitored. The facility is equipped with a video recording system that captures his swimming technique in motion, allowing coaches to analyze his performance and identify any errors. After thorough analysis, adjustments are made to his training regimen to provide guidance to his mentors.
The training camp is not just a swimming pool; it's a hub of sports science and expertise. Specialists from a comprehensive scientific group, senior coaches of the Russian national swimming team, and leading specialists from institutes of physical culture and sports are all involved in Gal'chin's training. These specialists assess the functional capabilities, psychological qualities, and motivation of the athletes, ensuring a holistic approach to their development.
Gal'chin's hard work and dedication have already paid off. He clinched a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle at the Russian Championships and has also won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the "Happy Dolphin" All-Russian Swimming Championships in 2024. Moreover, he is a multiple winner and medalist at the Far East Championships.
The "I Will Become a Champion!" program is more than just a training camp. It's a home away from home for these young athletes. The facility is equipped with several swimming pools, a dining hall, gyms, guest rooms, and even a biochemical laboratory. This environment allows the athletes to focus solely on their training and development, away from the distractions of everyday life.
Under the guidance of Coach Kozhakin, Gal'chin continues to push himself, striving for swimming excellence. With the support of the "I Will Become a Champion!" program and his unwavering determination, it's clear that Gal'chin is on his way to becoming a champion.
