Tesla has always emphasized the resilience of the Cybertruck, boasting about its fortified shell made of reinforced steel, claimed to withstand dents, damage, and corrosion for years. Even the glass windows garnered attention during the vehicle's unveiling. However, during the demonstration, it became clear that guarding vehicle glass from various stresses doesn't always prove to be straightforward. Tesla's lead designer, Franz von Holzhausen, managed to shatter the windows after throwing steel balls at them twice. Elon Musk humorously quipped, "At least the balls didn't go through," and vowed to make improvements.
Later, a video shared on YouTube showed that it now required substantial force to damage the glass. Tesla repeated this test themselves but this time using a baseball. While the glass proved more susceptible to shattering upon impact with hard objects, it doesn't necessarily make the Cybertruck impervious to burglaries.
Burglar Breaks-In Unnoticed
This was demonstrated in footage shared on Facebook by a Cybertruck owner. The video shows a hooded individual approaching the Cybertruck, checking his surroundings, and waiting for an opportune moment. Once no one was looking, he effortlessly removed the entire window from the door and entered the vehicle. The man spent a brief moment inside before leaving and driving away, seemingly taking his sweet time.
The car's owner, a man named Anuj Thakkar, expressed his concern while sharing the video. He noted that there were no alerts or notifications on his phone despite the Sentry Mode being enabled, leaving him puzzled.
Almost Inevitable Glass Break-ins
While the broken window isn't entirely unexpected, a thief could gain entry into any other car with similar ease. Other manufacturers don't highlight their glass as being particularly resistant, either. But in an emergency, it's crucial to be able to quickly shatter the window if the doors fail to open. In this sense, the shatter-resistant Cybertruck glass has its advantages despite not fragmenting upon impact.
In response to this incident, Tesla may consider adding a warning in their promotional materials, emphasizing the importance of additional security measures such as installing a car alarm system or ensuring valuables remain out of sight.
