Swift defense is crucial for the nation
In the heart of Germany, Baden-Württemberg is taking proactive steps to strengthen its defense capabilities, as the region faces a complex and evolving threat situation.
The Round Table on Security and Defense, recently held in Stuttgart, aimed to identify potential in defense capability and utilise synergies in defense efforts. This conference comes at a time when the urgency of the threat situation from Russia is clear to all, with the nation producing approximately 1500 tanks per year, indicating a significant defense capability.
The defense industry is becoming increasingly important, not just for the military, but for society as a whole. In this context, Baden-Württemberg is making efforts to facilitate job transfers from other industries, particularly the automotive sector, to the defense industry. This transition is considered essential, given the current tense times and the need to prevent unemployment.
Baden-Württemberg is supporting the defense industry through state-level cooperation with major defense companies like HENSOLDT. The state's support is evident in HENSOLDT's expansion of production capacities and workforce at multiple sites, including Ulm, to meet the urgent demand from the German Armed Forces.
The region is also advancing defense-related technology development. The "IDAS-PRO" drone defense research project, for instance, involved local police forces and security agencies to develop effective solutions for critical infrastructure and military security.
To foster innovation in high-tech defense sectors, Baden-Württemberg is connecting academia and industry. Initiatives like QuantumBW, a quantum technology innovation campus, are funded by Baden-Württemberg ministries and support quantum computing developments critical for aerospace and defense security.
Politicians are being urged to be more open about the threat situation, calmly preparing citizens for all possible scenarios. The upcoming state election is no exception, as politics should prepare the citizens for the potential challenges ahead.
