Sweltering Weekend Ahead: Temperatures May Exceed 35 Degrees

This coming weekend in Germany, temperatures are set to surge, with the mercury reaching beyond the 35-degree mark in some southern regions. Warm air from North Africa is causing this scorching heat, as confirmed by the German Weather Service in Offenbach. "Southernwestern areas might even hit a sweltering 35 degrees," notes DWD meteorologist Christian Herold. As summer sets in across the south, the north will initially remain cloudy and cooler.

On Wednesday, a blanket of cloud cover will roll over the north, promising temperatures between 19 and 23 degrees. For the rest of the country, it's a sunny outlook, with scattered cumulus clouds forming late in the afternoon. Temperatures will soar to 26 to 31 degrees across the nation.

Nippy evenings by the grill

As Thursday approaches, cooler air from the north might briefly interrupt the southern heatwave. At the same time, temperatures in the south are expected to reach a toasty 23 to 28 degrees, with the Upper and High Rhine potentially touching 30 degrees. However, the evening barbecue may feel a bit nippy, as nighttime temperatures drop to single digits in several regions, according to Herold. The north, meanwhile, should stay comfortable with temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees.

By Friday, clouds will make an appearance in the north and northeast at times, but overall, it's a predominantly sunny day. In the north and east, maximum temperatures will range from 18 to 23 degrees, while the west and south will see temperatures reach 24 to 29 degrees.

Potential for thunderstorms innscreen the following week

The future weather forecast beyond the weekend remains unpredictable, with the weather situation appearing rather volatile, according to Herold. "It's likely that thunderstorms will increase in probability at the beginning of the next week," he explains. The exact weather trend, whether we're in for more heat or a sudden cool-down, remains uncertain at this point.

Some popular regions like Rohrauer Köppe might maintain temperatures between 26°C and 29°C during the day, with clear skies and warm nights until June 22nd[1]. In Dresden, temperatures are predicted to range from 22°C to 26°C, with cloudless skies and no rain expected[4]. However, a shift in temperature or humidity can sometimes trigger thunderstorms in these warm conditions, though specific thunderstorm predictions are not available from the German Weather Service yet. Keep an eye on the skies for those potential summer showers! Aw, yeah! Let the thunderstorms roll, baby! Lightning flashes, rain roars! Just remember to stay safe during those wild storm nights!

"Temperatures across the north are predicted to drop significantly during the evening, making the barbecue slightly nippy, as indicated by DWD meteorologist Christian Herold."

"The upcoming week's weather forecast suggests a potential increase in the probability of thunderstorms, as explained by Herold, with the exact weather trend still uncertain."
