As the heatwave continues to sweep across Europe, a unique weather phenomenon is expected to grace parts of the continent this weekend. The high-pressure area named "Oldenburgia" is moving from North Africa, bringing with it a dusty haze that could lead to a weather phenomenon known as "Blood rain."

The Saharan dust, rich in iron particles, is expected to be carried by hot air from Africa and reach our latitudes, depending on the direction and wind speed. This dust storm is common in spring and autumn, but its impact this time could be more pronounced.

On Sunday, rainfall could turn the skies over western Germany a yellowish-orange hue, and the raindrops might even appear red due to the iron-rich dust particles in the atmosphere. This spectacle, often considered a bad omen for famines or wars in earlier times, may be witnessed in the city most likely to experience the blood rain phenomenon.

While the west of the country prepares for this unusual sight, the south and centre of Europe are forecast to enjoy temperatures of up to 32 degrees. From Friday, 25 to 30 degrees are expected in these regions, making it a perfect summer weekend.

However, the brief late summer will come to an end on Sunday, as autumn begins on Monday, September 22nd. On the same day, temperatures will drop significantly, with 15 to 20 degrees forecast for most of the country.

The drop in temperature could also bring about heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and stormy gusts. People with respiratory diseases like asthma should take extra precautions on such days, as the Saharan dust can cause or worsen inflammation and irritation of the airways.

As the Munich Oktoberfest is starting this coming weekend, visitors are advised to check the weather forecast and take necessary precautions against the dusty conditions.

Saharan dust is not unusual at this time of year, but its impact on the weather and our health serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of our planet's climate.
