THW Kiel Secures 23rd German Handball Championship

The THW Kiel has once again proven its dominance in German handball, winning the championship for the 23rd time with a 34:27 victory against Frisch Auf Göppingen. The record champion relegated last year's champions SC Magdeburg to second place.

The triumphant moment was marked by a heartfelt celebration on the court, with each player receiving a hug from coach Filip Jicha after the final whistle. The celebration continued with a first championship dance, followed by a beer shower for Jicha in the locker room. Captain Domagoj Duvnjak expressed his pride, stating that the championship trophy is deserved due to a strong season.

Sander Sagosen, the top scorer in the match with seven goals, was equally elated. He declared, "I'm proud of this team. This is an incredibly beautiful moment." Sagosen, however, will be moving to Kolding IL after three years at the THW Kiel.

The THW has already secured the services of French national goalkeeper Vincent Gerard for the upcoming season. While negotiations with Spanish national goalkeeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas from FC Barcelona are underway, no confirmed or reported deals have been disclosed publicly. The THW has expressed optimism about potential negotiations with Perez de Vargas.

Meanwhile, outgoing goalkeeper Niklas Landin participated in the celebration despite sustaining a calf injury, playing the last 90 seconds of the match. Landin will play for Aalborg HB in the future.

Already relegated are GWD Minden and ASV Hamm, whose spots will be taken by newcomers HBW Balingen-Weilstetten and ThSV Eisenach. TSV Hannover-Burgdorf secured the last spot for the European League next season.

The top three, four, and five spots in the Bundesliga went to the Berlin Foxes, SG Flensburg-Handewitt, and cup winners Rhein-Neckar Lions, respectively. SC Magdeburg will have another chance at a title next weekend at the Final4 in the Champions League.

The THW's success this season was not limited to the Bundesliga. Talent Dujshebaev and Alex Dujshebaev have already signed with the club, promising exciting times ahead.
